Your camera should feel exciting, not overwhelming.
Bring the camera you already own and learn by actually taking photographs. I’ll meet you at your level, explain things without the jargon and help you leave knowing exactly what to practise next.
No classroom. No judgement. Just useful help.
You don’t need to understand every dial or memorise a textbook to make better photographs. You need someone patient beside you who can show you what matters, let you try it and answer the questions that videos often leave behind.
I’m Rick, a Brisbane photographer and photography educator. My lessons are relaxed, practical and built around the camera in your hands. Whether you have just opened the box or you want more control over your portraits, we’ll start from where you are.

Learn by shooting
Bring your camera, ask questions and practise with patient guidance beside you.
You can arrive as a complete beginner.
Do I need an expensive camera?
No. Bring the camera you already own. DSLR and mirrorless cameras from any brand are welcome. If you’re unsure whether your camera is suitable, email me before booking.
What should I bring?
Bring your camera, one or two lenses, a charged battery and a memory card with free space. For the Quick Start, one camera and one lens keeps the lesson focused.
Where are lessons held?
Lessons take place at an agreed public location in Brisbane. The location is chosen to suit the lesson while keeping access and travel practical.
What if I am still shooting in Auto?
That is exactly what the Beginner Quick Start is for. You won’t be judged or expected to know technical language before you arrive.
Can the lesson focus on portraits or lighting?
Yes. Choose the Personal Deep Dive so there is enough time to tailor the lesson, practise and receive meaningful feedback.
Can I buy a lesson as a gift?
Yes. Email me with the recipient’s experience level and I’ll help you choose the right session before arranging the gift.
Let’s make your camera feel like your camera.
You don’t need to know what to ask. Tell me which camera you have and what has been frustrating you, and we’ll take it from there.
